Our (VRP) Comments Some Of The Topics Covered By The Poll:
Quality of Life Issues
The Villages quality of life issues have been affected by many changes in the development of the modern era.
Growth in the density of the villages – The number of residential homes has expanded along with the population of the villages.
The original personality of the villages, an exceptional area of Long Island, has changed with and been affected by the growth of Nassau County.
The gradual realization of the impact of the environment upon public health compels us to protect our air, water and land from pollution, unsustainable development and noise in order to sustain an ecological balance.
A major issue, locally, is the poor availability of mobility resources to the residents. This is a major concern in light of the increasing age of the local population. A Community Center would help with this issue. It should be a place where residents could meet to socialize over breakfast, lunch or just coffee. The center that is described in the Village News newsletter is insufficient in size and in the range of services offered to the residents.
Cedar Swamp Road (Route 107)
As concerned members of the community, we need to effectively voice our concerns to the village leadership (Village Board, Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals, and a few less well known committees). Our letter to the Village Board (of Brookville) concerning safety issues has received no response.
Jericho School District
The Jericho School District is a magnet that is highly rated for its quality of education. We would like to assemble a committee that would explore the specifics of the impact of the school district upon property value, quality of life issues, the desire of older residents to retire where they are and more. Please contact us if you would like to volunteer.
